Who is the mysterious White Lady said to haunt this Spanish restaurant?
Staff at a traditional restaurant say a mysterious White Lady has been linked to unexplained goings-on for decades, and her story begins with a signature in a guestbook

A mysterious signature, unexplained noises and objects that go missing. Staff at a Spanish restaurant have an unusual explanation for these strange occurrences, and it involves a ghost known as the White Lady.
In the old streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the restaurant occupies a traditional house dating back to the 19th century. Staff at La Hierbita say the premises have a mysterious resident, a ghost known as the White Lady, who has been linked to strange goings-on for decades.
According to the restaurant, the story began in 1992, when a signature in its guestbook apparently marked the start of the White Lady legend. Exactly what happened with the entry, or who was behind it, remains unclear.
Since then, the restaurant's manager says staff have experienced incidents they associate with the supposed spirit. Strange sounds are reportedly heard around the premises, while objects sometimes go missing, leaving the team to wonder whether their mysterious guest is responsible.
There is, however, no confirmed explanation for the supposed appearances, and even the manager acknowledges that imagination or suggestion could play a part in what people experience. Whether the White Lady is a genuine presence or a story that has grown over time, she has certainly earned herself a place in the restaurant's history. Nevertheless, the tale has become part of La Hierbita's identity, adding an unusual twist to a restaurant better known for its traditional Canarian cooking.
The restaurant continues to welcome diners in the historic centre of Santa Cruz, serving local favourites including papas arrugadas with mojo sauce and other classic island dishes.
Whether the strange incidents have a supernatural explanation or are simply part of a story that has grown over time, the White Lady remains an intriguing part of the restaurant's history. And with the origins of that guestbook signature still unexplained, there's at least one question the restaurant has yet to answer.
