4 great tips to help enhance your home’s heating efficiency today
For homeowners in Spain, upgrading your heating system can significantly improve energy efficiency, reduce running costs and enhance overall comfort.

1. Change your oil or gas boiler
If your oil or gas boiler is more than 15 years old then you will be using more oil or gas to operate it than if you were to purchase a modern boiler. The technology has greatly improved over the last few years, and there have been several revisions of these models since then.
The latest models of boilers are much more efficient, as well as being more eco-friendly, as is the case with everything these days. A boiler change will bring cost saving benefits over time, as you will use less oil and gas to operate it as well as reducing electricity running costs.
2. Upgrade your radiators
Did you know that the modern “Stelrad” style radiators can give up to 30% more output than some of the older traditional “Spanish style” radiators? Some heating systems in the region are more than 20 years old and by simply upgrading radiators to the convection style can make an enormous difference and save you money.
3. Use thermostatic radiator valves
Not all radiators need to be used at all times and in all rooms. Thermostatic radiator valves ensure you can control whether radiators are on or off, room by room and you can set the required temperature resulting in less oil and gas being used.
4. Install a wireless or hard-wired programmable room stat
A modern programmable room stat ensures that your heating can be controlled not just room by room, but with multiple times as well as temperatures. Weekend settings may be totally different to week day settings, for example.
With this you can also minimise the amount of oil you are using. Many systems already installed do not have this facility or the controls are not inside where they should be, but thankfully it is easy to add to your existing system.
