Until February 2 La Caja de la Rusa exhibition in San Pedro del Pinatar

ARCHIVED ARTICLE -

A visual tribute to the well-heeled families who enjoyed the Mar Menor in the 19th and early 20th centuries

Until February 2 La Caja de la Rusa exhibition in San Pedro del PinatarLa Caja de la Rusa (“The Russian Lady’s box”) is a curious exhibition at the “Barón de Benifayó” museum in San Pedro del Pinatar, based on the surprising literary story of the Discovery of an old biscuit tin full of postcards, drawings and old illustrations, all of them related to the palatial home of the Barón de Benifayó which was built in San Pedro in 1870.

In the early 20th century his home was lived in by a series of other noble families, and this exhibition contains 62 illustrations by Javier Lorente, showing some of the architectural and natural heritage of the Region of Murcia, including landscapes and monuments in the Mar Menor area, the Campo de Cartagena and various other municipalities.

In this sense it is a kind of tribute to the many places, including San Pedro, which from the late 19th century onwards proved to be such a great attraction to well-off families who admired the scenery, culture, tranquillity and local fiestas in this part of Spain.

The exhibition opens on Friday January 10 and runs until February 2. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 14.00 and Thursday to Thursday 17.00 to 19.00.

For further information contact the museum in Avenida de Orihuela (telephone 968 187596, email cultura@sanpedrodelpinatar.es).
