San Javier Today is a website set up by Murcia Today specifically for residents of the urbanisation in Southwest Murcia, providing news and information on what’s happening in the local area, which is the largest English-speaking expat area in the Region of Murcia.
When submitting text to be included on San Javier Today, please abide by the following guidelines so we can upload your article as swiftly as possible:
Send an email to editor@spaintodayonline.com or contact@murciatoday.com
Attach the information in a Word Document or Google Doc
Include all relevant points, including:
Who is the organisation running the event?
Where is it happening?
When?
How much does it cost?
Is it necessary to book beforehand, or can people just show up on the day?
…but try not to exceed 300 words
Also attach a photo to illustrate your article, no more than 100kb

Until October 14 Photography and memorabilia exhibition to commemorate the 190th anniversary of San Javier
The municipality of San Javier was awarded independence from Murcia on 9th March 1836
The town of San Javier first came into existence in the 16th century (click here for a history of the area and the municipality) but it was not until 9th March 1836 that the municipality was granted independence from the capital city of the region (the same date as neighbouring San Pedro del Pinatar), and to celebrate the 190th anniversary of the occasion an exhibition entitled “El tiempo pasa, las imágenes quedan” is being held at the local history museum between 2nd and 14th October.
Contained in the display are some 70 photographs contrasting the past with the present, leaving visitors to draw their own conclusions on how the area has changed since the municipality came into being. These images have mostly been donated by local residents and other private collections, including aerial shots as well as more “standard” photos.
