Until April 5 Semana Santa embroidery exhibition in Lorca
The Blues and the Whites show off some of the finest locally embroidered items of the 20th century
One of the many aspects of the spectacular Semana Santa parades in Lorca which have led to the celebrations achieving official International Tourist Interest status is the exquisite embroidered cloaks and other items which are worn by the participants, and it has become a tradition for an exhibition of embroidery to be held during Easter so that both locals and visitors can see at close hand the painstaking work which goes into creating them.
This year the exhibition is being held at the Centro Cultural de CajaMurcia at Calle C/ Pío XII, nº 27, and is open every day from 11.30 to 13.30 and from 17.30 to 19.30. Exceptions are on 27th March, and 2nd, 3rd and 5th April, when morning opening hours only are in place as the city prepares for the main events of Easter Week!
The exhibits include some of the finest pieces of embroidery created in the 20th century, made from threads of silk and gold leaf as well as velvet and other materials.
For more local events, news and visiting information contact the tourist office at the Palacio de Guevara (telephone 968 441914) or go to the home page of Lorca Today.
