Two minors arrested in Cartagena over handbag thefts from elderly women
Victims fell during the assaults, as police work continues on the case
The Policía Nacional, with help from the policía local, have arrested two minors in Cartagena in connection with three violent robberies targeting elderly women. The victims were targeted as being vulnerable, followed on foot and attacked on a scooter as their handbags were snatched, with several women suffering falls and injuries as a result.The incidents occurred last October in the Vía Verde del Barrio Peral and in the Barrio de los Dolores. In each case, the attackers approached the women, rode past on a scooter, then the other rider grabbed the handbag and sped away, dragging the victim and causing varying levels of injury.
Investigators say the scooter was a key link in the case. After extensive inquiries, authorities identified the vehicle and linked it to the reported offences, leading to the apprehension of the two minors. They have been charged with three counts of robbery with violence and are now awaiting proceedings at the Murcia Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
