Shoppers in Andalucía can plan ahead for 2026, as the regional government has now confirmed the 16 Sundays and public holidays when businesses will be allowed to open their doors. The dates are designed to cover key sales periods, long weekends and holidays with the highest footfall, such as Christmas.The full list was published in the Official Gazette of the Andalusian Regional Government (BOJA) by the Ministry of Employment, Business and Self-Employment. According to regional legislation, the dates must be announced before Sunday August 31 and are agreed after consultation with the Andalusian Trade Council.
The aim is to strike a balance between consumer demand and business flexibility, especially around high-traffic times such as the January and summer sales or when holidays fall in a long weekend. Each municipality may alter up to two of the listed dates to suit local needs.
Here are the 16 Sundays and holidays when shops may open in Andalucía in 2026:
- Sunday January 4
- Sunday January 11
- Saturday February 28 – Andalusia Day
- Thursday April 2 – Holy Thursday
- Sunday May 3 – during the Labour Day long weekend
- Sunday July 5 – start of summer sales
- Sunday July 26 – end of July sales period
- Saturday August 1 – summer sales
- Saturday August 15 – national holiday
- Monday October 12 – Hispanic Day
- Monday November 2 – All Souls’ Day
- Sunday November 29
- Monday December 7 – bridge holiday for Constitution Day
- Sunday December 13
- Sunday December 20
- Sunday December 27
These dates allow shops to make the most of key retail opportunities, while giving residents and tourists alike more chances to shop outside of the usual weekday hours. As always, individual town halls may make small adjustments, so it’s worth checking locally closer to the time.
