The Sacred Torch of the fiestas of Cartagena sets out from Caravaca on September 16
The Iter Ignis route covers a distance of 141 kilometres on its 3-day journey to Cartagena
The annual fiestas of the Carthagineses y Romanos in Cartagena are almost upon us once again, and this year the precursors to the main events, the carrying of the “Iter Ignis” flaming torch into the city, takes a longer route than usual as it sets off from Caravaca de la Cruz on 16th September.
The torch will be carried a total of 141 kilometres over three days, with overnight stops in Mula (after a first stage of 40 km) and Murcia (45 km further on). The final leg from Murcia to Cartagena covers a distance of 56 km before the flame reaches the “Monte Asdrúbalis” (the Hill of Hasdrubal) on Friday 19th September, sparking ten days of historical re-enactments, partying and processions in the city.
