Terra Natura Murcia welcomes two rare Iberian wolves to its conservation family
New arrivals boost efforts to protect this iconic native species
Terra Natura Murcia has gotten a little wilder recently with the arrival of two female Iberian wolves (canis lupus signatus), a unique subspecies native only to the Iberian Peninsula. These beautiful animals joined the park at the end of August and are part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP), designed to protect and breed this emblematic species and ensure its genetic future.These wolves are far from ordinary. They are a symbol of the region’s rich biodiversity, known for their distinctive dark markings on the back, tail, and front legs, which inspire their scientific name, signatus, meaning “marked.” However sadly they’re facing increasing threats in the wild. Terra Natura Murcia is proud to be playing a role in protecting these unique animals and safeguarding their legacy.
Marketing Director Carmina Noguera shared the significance of this arrival: “Welcoming these wolves is a major milestone in our conservation efforts. We are here to care for our native wildlife and make sure future generations understand and value their vital role in maintaining nature’s balance.”
By bringing these wolves into their family, Terra Natura strengthens its reputation as a safe haven for native species and a fantastic place to learn about and appreciate Spain’s rich environment.
