Storms and heavy rain before sunshine returns: Alicante weekend weather forecast September 17-20
An orange weather warning is in place as storms and heavy rain hit Alicante Province before conditions improve for the weekend

An orange weather alert is in place along the Alicante coast today, with more heavy rain and thunderstorms expected after a night of stormy weather, strong winds, and flooding across parts of the Valencia region. The weather should start to settle from Friday, with conditions looking much brighter by Sunday. Let's take a look at the weekend weather:
Thursday September 17
Thursday will be a very unsettled day across Alicante Province, with cloudy or overcast skies and showers and thunderstorms from early in the morning. The rain and storms should ease in most areas towards the end of the day, but temperatures will fall noticeably, particularly in the north of the province.
Alcoy will reach just 22°C, while Alicante city will reach 28°C. Dénia and Orihuela will both reach 25°C, while Elche will reach 27°C. Minimum temperatures will range from 15°C in Alcoy to 19°C in Alicante city. Dénia, Elche and Orihuela will all have lows of 17°C.
Winds will be moderate from the northeast along the coast, while inland areas will have light and variable winds.
Friday September 18
Friday will be calmer by comparison, although there will still be plenty of cloud around during the morning. Showers are likely, particularly along the coast during the first half of the day, and some could be strong at times. The cloud should start to break up later in the afternoon.
Alcoy will reach 23°C, while Alicante city will reach 28°C and Dénia 26°C. Elche and Orihuela will both reach 27°C. Minimum temperatures will range from 14°C in Alcoy to 17°C in Alicante city, Dénia, Elche and Orihuela.
Winds will be from the northeast along the coast, while inland areas will have light and variable winds.
Saturday September 19
Saturday should see further improvement, although some cloud will remain across the province. AEMET is forecasting some thunderstorms and showers in the southern half of Alicante,
Alicante city will reach 29°C, while Alcoy will reach 25°C. Dénia and Orihuela will both reach 27°C and Elche will reach 28°C. Minimum temperatures will range from 14°C in Alcoy to 19°C in Alicante city. Dénia will have a low of 18°C, while Elche will drop to 17°C and Orihuela 18°C.
Winds will be light and variable, with some northeast winds along the coast.
Sunday September 20
Sunday looks like it will be the most settled day of the weekend, with mostly clear skies and a little cloud. Some mist could develop inland during the morning, but skies should become brighter as the day goes on.
Alcoy will reach 26°C, while Alicante city, Elche and Orihuela will all reach 29°C. Dénia will reach 27°C. Minimum temperatures will range from 12°C in Alcoy to 18°C in Dénia. Alicante city will have a low of 17°C, while Elche and Orihuela will both drop to 16°C.
Winds will be light and variable, with some northeast winds along the southern Alicante coast early in the day.
So, after a stormy and much cooler Thursday, the weather should gradually get better as we head into the weekend. Do make sure to keep an eye on your local town hall Facebook pages and official weather channels just in case anything changes.
