Squatters kicked out of Camposol home
The owner of the house had gone abroad, allowing the okupas to move in
On Thursday November 13, Mazarrón Local Police officers turned up at a house in Camposol to boot out the squatters who were living there illegally.
According to a police statement, the officers “identified the alleged perpetrators, who vacated the property after the relevant proceedings”.
Once the occupants had been evicted, the property was “closed and sealed until the arrival of its rightful owner, who was abroad at the time,” say Mazarrón police.
Squatting in Spain – known as okupación – is not infrequent, and those who own second homes or who leave their homes empty for long stretches of time are liable to be targeted.
It is recommended to contract security such as CCTV, or use a property management or key holding service so that someone will be monitoring your house on a regular basis while you’re away.
In their statement about the latest case of squatting in Camposol, Mazarrón police concluded, that “proceedings will be referred for the corresponding legal processing” against the suspects.
