Spain is quietly becoming a world leader in battery power

They're industrial-scale units the size of shipping containers, packed with electrochemical cells and smart technology that can pump energy into the grid or absorb excess power within milliseconds.
Think of them as a giant buffer, soaking up cheap surplus energy during sunny or windy periods and releasing it when demand is high, which also helps keep electricity bills down.
According to a new Ernst & Young report, Spain is now the second biggest developer of battery storage projects in the world, behind only the United States.
