Spain weekly weather forecast October 19-22: Storm Adam clears to leave a calmer, cooler week
Torrential rain and very strong winds affect the east and southeast on Monday before conditions improve significantly from Tuesday onwards
The weekend brought widespread storms and a sharp drop in temperatures across much of
Spain, and Monday opens with the most intense conditions yet. Storm Adam is still very much in play, though it moves away through the week, leaving behind a noticeably cooler and more settled country by Wednesday and Thursday.
Monday October 19
The most serious day of the period. In the early hours, torrential showers and thunderstorms with very strong gusts are expected along the Valencian coast, the southeast and the Balearic Islands, where significant rainfall totals in a short space of time cannot be ruled out. Mallorca is particularly exposed. Through the morning, heavy showers and thunderstorms push into Andalucía, and by the afternoon the focus shifts to Catalonia, where very heavy and persistent rain is expected. Moderate rainfall also affects the Asturian coast, Aragon and the central plateau. The north stays largely clear. Temperatures fall across most of the country, with light frosts in northern mountain areas overnight.
Tuesday October 20
Storm Adam begins to retreat, and the picture improves through the day, though it takes time. The Balearic Islands and Catalonia may still see heavy and persistent storms into the early morning before conditions ease. Elsewhere, partly cloudy skies become clearer, with showers limited to the Pyrenees and a few scattered spots in the south and the Strait by the afternoon. The eastern third sees a significant temperature recovery, rising by more than 6°C in places, while the rest of the country cools further. Light westerly winds prevail, with stronger gusts possible in the Alboran Sea.
Wednesday October 21
A proper reset. High pressure takes hold across almost the entire peninsula, bringing mostly clear or sunny skies. Only the Cantabrian coast sees persistent cloud and light rain due to a passing front, and eastern Catalonia picks up some light showers from midday. Everywhere else it’s a pleasant autumn day. Temperatures change little, though minimums drop in the east and light frosts return to northern mountain areas. Moderate northwesterly winds across much of the country, stronger along the Cantabrian coast.
Thursday October 22
High pressure consolidates its grip and it’s a fine day for most. The Cantabrian coast and Girona stay cloudy with some light rain, and low cloud lingers around the Strait of Gibraltar, but the bulk of Spain wakes to clear skies. Temperatures nudge up inland while easing slightly along the Mediterranean coast. Winds are westerly and mostly light, with a stronger northwesterly in the Cantabrian Sea.
Storm Adam exits as noisily as it arrived, but the second half of the week is a very different story, and for much of Spain it’ll be a decent, if noticeably cooler, few days.
