Spain bank holiday weekend weather forecast: December 4-8
Temperatures will steadily climb in most of Spain this long weekend
Average temperatures expected in Spain on Saturday December 6
The good news is that, as we head into
the December long weekend, much more “stable” weather is expected, according to Aemet, with less rain, a higher snow level and “higher, milder temperatures,” especially in coastal areas.
But before we get to the warm weather, mos of Spain will have to endure cloudy or overcast skies on Thursday December 4. Heavy rain and snow are forecast in the far north while the south and east coasts can at least expect some early showers.
Weather outlook on Thursday December 4
Temperatures will remain more or less the same for the time being. Yellow alerts for strong winds and dangerous sea conditions have been issued in
Andalucia, the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia.
From Friday December 5, southerly winds will blow again and the temperatures will start to rise in most of the country, with frost only expected in high mountain areas and a snow level that will soar above 2,000 metres.
Weather outlook on Friday December 5
The mercury will fly up to 18ºC along the Cantabrian coast and hover in the low 20s in the Mediterranean area.
On Saturday December 6, despite heavy rain expected early in the day in Galicia and, to a lesser extent, in the Cantabrian region, Castilla y León and parts of central and western Spain, “everything indicates that these rains will gradually subside throughout the day,” according to Aemet spokesperson Ruben Del Campo.
Weather outlook on Saturday December 6
Temperatures will continue to rise and cities like Bilbao, San Sebastian and Barcelona could reach a fairly unusual 20ºC while in the Mediterranean, the likes of
Alicante, Valencia,
Murcia and Malaga can look forward to temperatures ranging from 23ºC to 25ºC.
It will be a bit cooler inland though, with provincial capitals such as Madrid and Valladolid maxing out at around 15ºC.
During Sunday December 7 and into Monday December 8, another public holiday, the heaviest downpours should be confined to Galicia and parts of the Cantabrian coast, although some rain is possible in the Pyrenees and the area around the Central System mountain range. Dry weather will prevail in the rest of the country.
Weather outlook on Sunday December 7
Temperatures will drop slightly compared to Saturday, but overall they will remain mild and somewhat high for this time of year, far from the typical cold of early December.
