September 5 and 6 Retro Windsurf event based in San Javier

Over 60 racers using boards which go back to the 70s and 80s at Camping Mar Menor near Santiago la Ribera

September 5 and 6 Retro Windsurf event based in San JavierThe 3rd Vuelta al Mar Menor Windurfer Class event is being held at the Camping Mar Menor campsite in San Javier (click for map) over the weekend of 11th and 12th April, when the area welcomes more than 70 competitors from all over Spain as well as a fair few international representatives.

The event has something of a retro feel to it as the one-design class harks back to the early windsurf boards of the 1970s and 80s, as Councillor Sergio Martínez explained at the presentation this week. However, although the basic design remains the same, boards have now been upgraded to make them more lightweight, while sails are rather more eye-catching!!

Races will be held over four legs, with the first two on Saturday running at 12.00 from Camping Mar Menor to Playa Mistral in La Manga del Mar Menor, the second from there to the Puente de la Risa in the north of La Manga and the third to Santiago de la Ribera and back to the campsite. On Sunday, both legs are there-and-back affairs between the campsite and Isla Perdiguera, prior to the prizegiving ceremony at 17.00.
