Sephardic Jewish September menu at the Caballerizas del Castillo restaurant in Lorca castle
Lorca joins other cities in Europe in commemorating its Jewish heritage during September
During the month of September the city of Lorca is taking part, as it does every year, in the Europe-wide celebration of Jewish cultural heritage (which in 2025 goes under the slogan of “The People of The Book”), and among the many activities available during the month is the special menu which can be booked in advance at the Caballerizas del Castillo restaurant within the walls of the castle.
The Jewish community in Lorca was an important one in the early Middle Ages, prior to their expulsion (along with the Moors) from the newly united Spain in 1492. The remains of the synagogue are the best preserved in Spain from that period, and Lorca now fully recognizes the important role played by the Jews in the creation of the city’s impressive cultural and historical heritage.
The menu available during September, at a price of 35 euros per head, is as follows:
Starters (centre of table)
Tomato salad with feta cheese and black olives
Rice with aubergine, soya beans and honey
Chicken curry samosas
Main courses (choose one)
Roast lamb with cinnamon
Salmon with chraimeh sauce
(Vegetarian options are also available)
Dessert (choose one)
Rice pudding with vanilla
Fresh fruit
One drink is included
