Re-wilding completed on the path up to the Pico del Aguilica in Águilas
A charming walk with an immensely rewarding view over the beaches and town centre of Águilas
A project has just been completed by the Town Hall of Águilas concerning the re-wilding of the path leading up to the Pico del Aguilica, a charming and very manageable climb to an easily accessible viewing point out over the bay of Levante.
The path also forms part of the “12.000 Pasos Tres Bahías” Blue Trail, and the work carried out has consisted mainly of the removal of invasive plant species such as Carpobrotus edulis (known in Spanish as “uña de gato”, or cat’s nail!), and the planting of species which are native to the area and which adapt to the landscape of the Águilas coastline.
At the same time, bio-degradable netting has been installed to prevent erosion while the ground has been firmed and watering systems upgraded, and for greater comfort benches and waste bins have been added.
For more local events, news and visiting information, contact the tourist office of Águilas (telephone 968 493285) or go to the home page of Águilas Today.
