Prado masterpieces hit Murcia's streets this summer

San Javier and three other towns to host travelling exhibition of 50 iconic works

Prado masterpieces hit Murcia's streets this summerSan Javier is gearing up for a cultural treat, with the Region of Murcia and Iberdrola Foundation signing a deal to bring the "Prado in the Streets" exhibition to town from June 19 to July 19. It's one of four stops, alongside Cehegín, Murcia and Lorca, running March to July, featuring 50 stunning reproductions of Prado Museum masterpieces that promise to light up public spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Culture Minister Carmen Conesa was delighted at the signing: "Making culture accessible to everyone is a highly commendable initiative, especially when it offers an effective and educational approach to the great masters of all eras and schools." San Javier's Mayor José Miguel Luengo was there too, beaming about the timing. He said it's "an honor" for his town to host during peak tourist season, giving visitors and locals alike a chance to soak up world-class art right on their doorstep.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday February 18 with Conesa alongside Iberdrola Spain Foundation president Jaime Alfonsín, plus mayors and reps from all four host towns. It's a smart move to pop these treasures out of the gallery and into everyday spots, making high art feel close and welcoming.

If you're in the area, keep an eye out: from historic scenes to timeless portraits, these blow-ups of Prado gems will be free to wander past. San Javier's slot lines up perfectly with summer crowds, so whether you're a local or popping by for the coast, it's a lovely way to blend culture with your day out.

It’s a real boost for the Region. Bringing a slice of Madrid's finest to our neck of the woods. Can't wait to see the smiles it brings.
