October 9 to 11 Acho Beer Festival in Lorca
Fun, music, a great atmosphere and plenty of beer outside the La Merced visitors’ centre in Lorca
The hugely popular Acho Beer festival returns to Lorca for the first three days of the upcoming holiday weekend, with over 30,000 people expected to visit the car park outside the visitors’ centre of La Merced to enjoy the food, the sporting events, the music and of course the bars!
The music goes under the name of the “Acho Live Fest” and is being staged in the cultural area of the event, with the others being devoted to gastronomy, sports and social activities (although to tell the truth, all of them are highly social!). Among the acts performing are Rata and Modelo, two of the most prominent new bands to emerge in Spain, while another four bands, Lluvia, Capros, Belapalma and Malafé, have been selected out of more than 420 candidates to take part in the entertainment on Saturday 10th October.
Also on stage are various DJs and The Tracks, a cover band who will bring down the curtain on the festival on Sunday 11th October, as they have done in previous years.
In the gastronomy area, food trucks are taking up their positions to serve a variety of tasty options over the three days, while the all-important beer is supplied by Murcia brewer Estrella de Levante, who are helping to organize the Macrocata Achobeer event on Sunday, in which four special regional beers are presented.
On the sporting front, the competition here is unlikely to be of Olympic standard, the emphasis being placed firmly on enjoyment. On Saturday 10th November the second Beer Race is being held, a social run of around 4 kilometres which includes three drinks stops, in which all competitors are the winners as they enjoy the trip! The top prize is awarded to the best costume, not the first to arrive at the finish line!
In the social area, meanwhile, the atmosphere will be enlivened still further by a University event on Friday 9th October as students begin the new academic year at the Rata concert.
