October 26 Free guided visit to the Stone Age settlement of Cabezo del Plomo in Mazarron
The circular remains of Cabezo del Plomo date from around 5,000 years ago
Although it is not visible from the coastal plain of Mazarrón, the remains on the hilltop of Cabezo del Plomo are among the most important settlements found in south-eastern Spain dating from the late Stone Age and the early Copper Age, approximately 5,000 years ago.
This period in human development of man was a transitional stage, after the Stone Age, in which hunting implements and tools were made of stone and flint. People were developing skills in smelting metals, but had not yet developed the techniques of combining copper and tin to make the metal which would revolutionise human society - bronze.
This guided visit to the hill takes place on Saturday October 26 starting at 10.00 and is expected to last approximately one hour, with participants requested to make their own way to the meeting point. Children are welcome but it is the responsibility of parents or guardians to ensure that they behave appropriately throughout, and all walkers are strongly advised to bring drinking water, suncream, adequate footwear and a snack.
Prior registration is required and is available online here, with participants asked to supply ID or passport number and indicate if any members of the group are under 18. The meeting point will be sent to participants after their registration.
