October 14 to 19 The 2024 FERICAB Horse Show in Lorca
Over 250 horses on show in Lorca including 109 pure Spanish thoroughbreds, with shows for the public over the weekend
The annual FERICAB Horse and Equestrian Fair returns to the Huerto de la Rueda venue in Lorca (click for map) from October 15 to 20, attracting thoroughbreds from all over Spain as they compete in the various categories, as well as livestock offered for sale.
The Lorca event is one of the most important and best attended of its type in Spain and helps to promote the prestige of Spanish thoroughbreds throughout Europe through the showing of horses not only from Murcia but also from other regions, especially Mallorca and Menorca. This year over 250 horses are present, with some having come from as far away as the UK, France and Mexico, and among those in Lorca are 109 Spanish thoroughbreds.
The Classical Dressage competition takes place on 14th and 15th October, and on Sunday 19th October the “Alta Escuela” event takes place, the highlight for those who admire equestrian elegance, precision and the relationship between animal and rider.
As ever, at the weekend the main arena at the Fericab hosts evening shows, which always attract large crowds, and this year these events feature Antonio Angulo (alta escuela world champion on various occasions), Miguel Da Fonseca (a Portuguese rider), José Manuel González and his show donkey and exhibition of horse and carriage driving.
Parallel activities are also scheduled for schoolchildren, along with workshops for breeders, horse fans and the general public.
The event is open from 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00 and admission is free of charge.
