November 9 Free guided tour of the charming old town of Jumilla
Get to know the history of the delightful old town centre of Jumilla
Like almost every town in the world Jumilla is now for the most part a collection of relatively modern residential buildings, but in the centre the historic and cultural heritage of the town is still very much in evidence, as those who join this free guided tour on Sunday 9th November will see for themselves.
The morning walk, starting at 11.00 outside the Teatro Vico (itself a monument to late 19th-century modernist architecture) coincides with World Wine Tourism Day, appropriately enough for a town which is known throughout the world for its name appearing on wine labels, especially those made from the Monastrell Pie Franco grape. Visitors will then see others of the most representative buildings, including the Town Hall and the picturesque collection of architectural work which surrounds the charming Plaza de Arriba.
Although the tour is free of charge, prior registration is required and can be completed online here or by telephone on 663 300779.
And of course, when the walk ends you’ll be wanting to try a drop of the local wine in one of the many welcoming local restaurants and hostelries!
