November 8 Join a 35-km mountain resistance hike in the countryside of Caravaca
The route of this non-competitive distance event is described as “very hard”
The 13th edition of the “Sierras del Noroeste Murciano” mountain resistance hike is being held in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz on Saturday November 8 over a distance of 35 km, an event which is highly respected and is sometimes referred to as “La Clásica”.
The event starts early in the morning (or late at night, depending on how you look at it) at 3.00 with breakfast in the car park of the language school (click for map), although those who have not done so the previous evening will be collecting their race numbers in Calle Concejal Miguel Ángel Blanco, 27, from 2.00 onwards. Then the hike itself (this is not a competitive race) begins at 4.00, although not many spectators are expected!
The route then takes them through iconic beauty spots in the north-west of Murcia including Cerro Gordo, El Buitre, Somogil and Collado Quintero before arriving in the village of Benizar (in Moratalla) about 10 hours later after a total climb and descent of 2,200 metres during the 35-km trek, and athletes can choose to join in an early dinner at Restaurante la Brasa back in the city centre.
Registration is available online here at between 30 and 45 euros, closing on 3rd November.
