November 8 CID! A musical version of the story of El Cid in Alhama
A re-telling of the 11th-century figure of El Cid with music at the Teatro Cine Velasco in Alhama
One of Spain’s semi-mythical heroes, known variously as Ruy, Rodrigo Díaz, El Cid, Sidi or El Campeador, is known for his ability in combat fighting with both Christian and Moorish armies in the Iberian Peninsula in the 11th century.
Famously brought to life in the 1961 film by Charlton Heston, he is still the subject of numerous theatrical and dramatic re-tellings of the stories surrounding his life, and this one is narrated by his brothers and accompanied by music from La Musgaña, one of the leading Spanish folk groups with over 35 years of live performances behind them.
The show at the Teatro Cine Velasco in Alhama de Murcia on Saturday 8th November begins at 20.00 with tickets priced at 10 euros (available in advance from the municipal swimming pool (telephone 968 639757).
For more local news, events and visiting information contact the tourist office (telephone 968 633512) or go to the home page of Alhama Today.
