November 1 Halloween activities in Alhama de Murcia
Fun and games for children, horror movies and a Viral Zombie event in Alhama
NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED FROM THE PREVIOUS DAY FOLLOWING THE DECLARATION OF 3 DAYS OF NATIONAL MOURNING IN THE WAKE OF THE RAIL DISASTER ON 28th OCTOBER
Only a generation ago, Halloween didn’t exist in the Region of Murcia! Children had no idea of the significance of 31st October other than the fact that the following day is a national holiday to commemorate All Saints’ Day, and English teachers struggled to explain how it is celebrated in the same way they attempted to explain the importance of Guy Fawkes Night in the UK.
These days, though, it is impossible to escape the hordes of ghosts, monsters, zombies, witches and other characters associated with the dead and the undead, and Town Halls all over the country organize special events for all ages, mostly focussing on the younger generations.
In Alhama de Murcia this year there is no shortage of options on Saturday 31st October, with the programme including the following:
17.00 to 21.00: Children’s games and bouncy castles in the Plaza de la Constitución.
17.00: A series of pumpkin workshops begins at the Casa de las Américas.
19.00, 19.30 and 20.00: The Alhanza dance academy perform horror dances in the Plaza de la Constitución.
23.00: Halloween party for teenagers at Espacio Joven La Estación.
All evening: a night of cinema terror at the Teatro Cine Velasco.
23.00: The start of this year’s Viral Zombie event in the Plaza de la Constitución.
It goes without saying that costumes are to be expected, without being obligatory!
