New Wine Horses mural to be unveiled in Caravaca
The image recreates a photo of the Wine Horses fiestas taken in the 1940s
In many towns throughout the Region of Murcia the local councils are adding “urban art” to the walls of buildings, replacing the unsightly graffiti which some individuals seem to feel compelled to contribute to the landscape, and in Caravaca the latest is an image recreating an old black and white photograph of the Fiestas of the Wine Horses.
The mural Caravaca created by Martzel Do Nascimento is a faithful representation of a photo from the late 1940s and will eventually be part of a new public space that is being created alongside Los Huertos del Vicario, in the heart of the city. As for the photograph which inspired it, this comes from the archives of Caballos del Vino stores, and fittingly the outdoor location is very close to the Casa-Museo de los Caballos del Vino.
The image was shot in the Calle Corredera and shows one of the wine horses on its way to be blessed at the Templete, accompanied by various runners dressed in the typical outfits of the time. Behind them, the old facilities of Bodegas Tudela can be seen.
