New nocturnal illumination for Lorca castle
The complete extent of the old defensive wall now stands out over Lorca during the hours of darkness
Lorca castle has unveiled a new LED illumination system which has transformed the image of the “Fortress of the Sun” by night, shedding light on the whole of the inner wall which surrounded the hilltop fortification and protected the population in the Middle Ages.
Requiring an investment of over half a million euros (515,707.80, to be precise) the system features 154 LED projectors and almost 300 new beacons, one of the effects being to illuminate 300+ metres of wall which were not previously visible by night. Although the new system was far from cheap, it provides a 75 per cent reduction in energy bills from now on as well as making the castle a 24-7 attraction for locals and visitors!
It is now planned that various colours will be added to the range, which, combined dimmers and other variables, will make it possible for numerous effects to be achieved.
