New mural embellishes public garden in the heart of Caravaca
The work by Carlos Callizo blends in perfectly with the vegetation in Los Huertos del Vicario
A new mural painting by Murcia artist Carlos Callizo has been created in the public park of Los Huertos del Vicario in Caravaca de la Cruz as part of the project to spruce up the old city centre using EU Next Generation funding of the “Camino a Caravaca” project.
Collado has been awarded national prizes for his artistic work and has been working on the 45-suqare-metre painting for the last few weeks, using ecological acrylic paint which is weather-resistant and applying it with brushes of varying widths and textures (rather than the aerosols which are often used in this kind of work). The image represents the Torre de los Pastores of the parish church of la Concepción set in the kind of vegetation which characterizes the park, and the budget for its creation ran to a total of 9,700 euros.
In total, Los Huertos del Vicario occupies 3,500 square metres of land in the heart of Caravaca de la Cruz and also contains remains of the old system of “acequías” (the irrigation ditches dating back to the period of Moorish rule, which still remain in use in many parts of the Region of Murcia).
