Murcia photo of the month July 2026
July 2026 has certainly been a sporting month to remember with huge global events taking place - football’s World Cup, tennis at Wimbledon and cycling’s Tour de France – and many local ones, such as the sailing competitions on the Mar Menor and football at the Pinatar Arena. It therefore seemed fitting that ‘Sports’ was the title of LADCC’s photographic competition this month.
Once again, another great array of photos was entered by our avid group of photographers. We even had photos relating to the above sports, albeit padel to tennis is a slightly tenuous link! A total of eleven different sports were featured, some of which saw our photographers venture to the Mar Menor. Watersports featured in many competition entries, with dramatic shots of wind and kite surfers, jet skiers, and even kayak polo.
However, this month’s winning photo, taken by Neil Twigg, was a stunning black and white photo of a boxer who seemed to be attacking the cameraman! Neil felt that the black and white enhanced his image and, with a bright sky, added to the effect. However, the photo wasn’t taken in the ring but on a solarium above local bar
Maya in Los Narejos to give Neil the bright light that he wanted. The bar owner, who is also a DJ and amateur kick boxer, allowed Neil to take a series of photos of him training. His aim was to create an active and vibrant action shot and, after taking about 150 images from a variety of angles, Neil got the “gritty” shot he was after.

Our monthly outing followed the sporting theme. One of our members, Julian Pering, is also a member of
a sailing club based in Los Urrutias. He kindly organised a sailing trip for club members and they sailed to one of the Mar Menor’s five islands, the ‘Isla Perdiguera’. Our photographers/sailors also helped with local conservation as, during their brief stay, they took part in a clean-up of the island, returning to the mainland with a couple of bags of rubbish. Whilst cameras were at the ready during their visit no photos of the trip were entered in this month’s competition but I am pleased to report that all of our intrepid sailors returned to shore safe and sound!
LADCC takes a bit of a break for the summer now, resuming on September 1st, although the monthly competitions will be continuing. Some members may meet on an informal basis over the summer, to discuss their topics or try out photographic ideas. Last summer this involved using local hostelries!!
This popular camera club usually meets twice a month, at
Las Claras Centre in
Los Alcázares, on the first Tuesday of every month and, often, an outing towards the end of the month, where the group gets together to collectively work on the topic for the monthly competition. With modern day technology we can all keep in contact for training sessions, sharing knowledge etc via ‘group chats’. We are interested in hearing from anyone who would like to join us when the opportunity arises. If you would like more information about the Club please do not hesitate to look at our website,
