May 31 to June 15 Book Fair in Yecla

Yecla is proud of its literary tradition and was home to the writer Azorín

The town of Yecla in the north of the Region of Murcia has a rich literary tradition, and for this reason the Book Fair which is being held during the first fortnight of June is a significant event in the annual calendar.

Yecla was the childhood home of José Martínez Ruiz, better known by his pseudonym Azorín, who lived from 1873 to 1967 and was one of the most respected members of the “Generation of 98”, also becoming a long-serving member of the Spanish parliament. Perhaps his most famous novel is “La Voluntad”, much of which is set in Yecla and which is pictured on the poster for this year’s local book fair.

The fair in the Plaza Mayor runs from 31^st May to 15^th June and includes talks by various local authors presenting their works. The timetable of the event is 10.30 to 14.30 and 17.30 to 21.30.
