May 26 to June 1 the Blue Crab Show 2025 gastro event in Los Alcázares
10 local restaurants compete to produce the best blue crab tapa on the coast of the Mar Menor!
The second edition of the Blue Crab gastronomic event is being held in Los Alcázares from May 26 to June 1, featuring a tapas route, various show cooking events, video recipes and trips on the local tourist train.
The “El Habanero” tourist train will be in operation on 26th and 27th May with live music on board and stopping at the different establishments taking part in the event on each day, and prior bookings will be made available at the event website here. On Monday 26th the destinations are Casa de Papel, Como Loco, Rincón de Cristina, Khataris and Juan Navarro, while the following day rides are offered to Bar Las Claras, La Minería Alalba, Cortez, El Chato and La Gonga.
In each of the 10 restaurants different dishes are being prepared using the blue crab which has become so common in the Mar Menor in recent years and those following the route can vote for their favourite tapa on the website. Here they can also see photos and videos of each tapa, as well as finding directions to all of the establishments.
Fishermen in the Mar Menor report that the blue crab has been present in the lagoon for over 15 years, but although its meat is highly appreciated in the USA and south-east Asia, it has taken some time for it to gain popularity in Spain.
Other events during the week include a show cooking with free tastings at 11.00 on Wednesday 29th May in the “Las Claras del Mar Menor” FP educational centre and a series of video recipes presented by Ángel Martínez Garay of “La Cocina de Angel G” fame, along with the chiefs of EuroToques Murcia. These videos can already be seen on the websites and on social media networks.
