May 23 and 24 International Seniors Fair in Los Alcázares
Special focus on the needs of non-Spanish elderly residents in the Mar Menor area
A new event is being held in the Plaza Manuel Floreal Menárguez, next to the Town Hall of in Los Alcázares. On 23rd and 24th May, when the 1st International Seniors Fair open with over 70 stands and stalls offering goods and services and a series of talks and conferences.
The aim of the Fair, which is open on both days from 10.00 to 20.00, is to recognize and give visibility to the needs and interests of this sector of the population, bringing together companies and institutions with interests in promoting the wellbeing of the less young among us, according to Councillor María José Benzal. Special attention will be paid to the problems and challenges faced by non-Spanish elderly people in this country, including the legal aspects of residences and mental health care should these services be required.
(It is important to remember that numerous elderly people from northern Europe spend at least part of the year in Los Alcázares and neighbouring towns and resorts, attracted by the mild winters of the Costa Cálida and the relatively warm seawater of the Mar Menor – certainly a good deal more appetizing than a dip in the North Sea on a blustery February day!)
At the same time a Seniors’ Tapas Route is being held in the bars and restaurants of the town centre, offering a variety of bar snacks and a series of prize draws – further information about this initiative will be made public shortly.
