May 14 to 18 Optimist class sailing championship in Los Alcázares

The 2025 Spanish Optimist Cup is being held in the Mar Menor

The water of the Mar Menor is certainly looking to be a busy place during May 2025, with the Splash-In seaplane festival over the weekend of May 2 to 4 being closely followed by the Spanish Optimist class sailing cup between May 14 and 18.

Taking part will be 155 top sailors from all over Spain, basing themselves for the duration of the championship at the Club Náutico Mar Menor in Los Alcázares – although some will also take part in the “Precopa”, a training weekend on 10^th and 11^th May. In total, as many as 15 races are being held, filling this part of the Mar Menor with sails as the competitors speed across the water.

This is yet another event consolidating the growing reputation of Los Alcázares as a venue for top Sporting competitions, making sports one of the most important and Dynamic sectors of the local economy, according to councillor Pedro Pascual Lamas.
