March 20 Free guided tour of the fishing port and coastline of central Águilas
Fishing has played a vital role in the life and development of Águilas over the centuries
This guided tour takes participants on an informative journey through the history of fishing in Águilas, visiting two natural mooring sites which have been used by boats for centuries, marking the identity and way of life of the coastal town.
The walk begins at the Puerto de Levante, the eastern port, where the first manmade structure was a simple stone jetty, and follows the Edge of the pay to the Puerto de Poniente, which provides natural shelter from the prevailing winds. All along the route are information boards, which complement the contribution of your qualified guide as you make your way along the shoreline, learning about the traditions of fishing which are still important in local culture.
The starting point is the Monument to Carnival at 16.30 and the walk ends two hours later in the Plaza Virgen del Rocío. Comfortable walking clothes and footwear and plenty of drinking water are recommended.
The visit is free of charge but prior registration is required online here.
For more local events, news and visiting information, contact the tourist office of Águilas (telephone 968 493285) or go to the home page of Águilas Today.
