Mar Menor Ferry Service unveils exciting new water taxi service
The new boat will ferry passengers year-round between Lo Pagán and Tomás Maestre
Visitors to the
Mar Menor will be spoiled for choice this summer with the inauguration of the new Maritime Public Transport service, which will ferry passengers between the port of Lo Pagán-La Puntica in
San Pedro del Pinatar with Puerto Menor (better known as Tomás Maestre) in La Manga. This is in addition to the Mar Menor water excursions which were launched last week.
This dynamic ferry service, operated by two companies, provides a unique way to explore the beauty of the Mar Menor and its surroundings. With a classic wooden boat accommodating 120 passengers and a taxi service for smaller groups, visitors can now discover hidden gems along the lagoon, bathe in its waters, visit islands and even enjoy breathtaking sunsets aboard the special night tours.
The mooring points provided to both companies are located next to the ‘Félix Martínez Nautical Activities Centre’ in Lo Pagán and, shortly, the pontoon here will also be opened.
Both ferry services will run throughout the winter too in a concerted effort to ‘de-seasonalise’ tourism in the Mar Menor, which is traditionally booming in the summer but much quieter off-peak.
“With the pontoon and the two new vessels that will travel along our coast, nautical, economic and tourist activity is promoted to position the Region of Murcia as a benchmark,” Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, José Manuel Pancorbo, said at the inauguration of the new Lo Pagán service.
The Lo Pagán marina, with its concession until 2036, is set to undergo significant improvements. An investment of 76,000 euros will create an intermodal route, promoting seamless travel between maritime and land transport. Additionally, a new floating multipurpose docking facility, equipped with an articulated aluminium walkway, will enhance accessibility and passenger experience.
Cruceros Mar Menor invites passengers to embark on a journey of discovery, providing a chance to explore the Mar Menor’s islands and enjoy its tranquil waters.
Chapi Taxi Mar Menor, on the other hand, introduces a novel taxi service with a capacity of 12 passengers, offering tours to various points along the lagoon, including the picturesque Veneziola.
As a special addition, Chapi Taxi incorporates a passenger transport service connecting Lo Pagán and La Manga, improving connectivity between these vibrant towns.
This service will be a game-changer for residents and visitors alike, providing a convenient and scenic way to travel between these popular destinations.
