Los Alcázares waiting for permission to restore beaches for the summer
The May storms require redistribution of sand on some beaches of Los Alcázares
With the peak summer season just around the corner the Town Hall of Los Alcázares is now undertaking beach maintenance work, redistributing the sand after the unfortunate effects of the heavy rain which affected the area during the month of May.
On 7th May as much as 150mm of rain fell in Los Alcázares in a torrential 2-hour storm, and coming after an unusually wet winter this caused a progressive loss of sand at various points along the shoreline. At the same time, usually flat areas became rutted and uneven, making them difficult to use for beachgoers.
The local authorities are doing everything they can but insist that they need permission for the regional and national environmental ministries to redistribute sand to the extent it is required, and unfortunately this permission has still not been forthcoming. While efforts are being made to stress the urgency of the matter, it is being stressed that every care will be taken to comply with the rules regarding respect for the natural environment.
