Los Alcázares to host 7 major sailing competitions in 2026
Progress is also being made to open the first dedicated water sports beach in the Mar Menor
Los Alcázares was in the spotlight on the Region of Murcia stand on Thursday 22nd January as a presentation was made of water official sports events in the Region during 2026, with the municipality featuring as venue for no fewer than 7 out of the 17 mentioned.
Those included are the Spanish national ILCA 4 sailing championship, the European ILCA 4 Championship, The European Funboard Championships in Class A, WASZP and FINN Master, and the Spanish WASZP Championship. According to Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera, these prestigious events are the reward for years of effort, investment and promotion of Los Alcázares as a water sports venue, and will attract thousands of competitors, technical staff and accompanying groups to the municipality, bringing a boost to the local economy and contributing to the de-seasonalization of tourism in the area.
At the same time, the Mayor announced that in the near future further progress will be made towards the opening of the first official water sports beach in the Mar Menor, a place where enthusiasts can practise their chosen discipline in an ordered, safe and sustainable fashion.
