Los Alcázares brings down the curtain on the annual Berber Pirate Raids fiestas
The 25th edition of the Fiestas was accompanied by favourable weather and attracted tens of thousands of visitors
The centre of Los Alcázares is now returning to something approaching normal after four days of street celebrations during the annual Berber Pirate Raids fiestas, which were held this year for the 25th time from 2nd to 5th May.
The huge medieval market occupied most of the town centre for the four days, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the food, jewellery, arts and crafts and other stands while itinerant entertainers roamed the streets. As ever, the evening concerts and main ceremonies were exceptionally well attended, as was the main parade, with the weather favouring the events this year and the coastline of the Mar Menor as attractive a destination as ever!
All of the main events saw the spectator stands fully booked, and the installation of big screens around the centre made it possible for far more people to witness them than those occupying seats, while for the main parade on Saturday the whole of the route was a sea of colour and excitement!
One of the final events was the annual Caldero Pot Throwing competition on Playa de la Concha, where the festive spirit was in evidence as the fiestas neared their end.
Now there will be a short rest before the organizers turn their attention to the 26th edition of the fiestas next year!
