Lorca to receive €1 million to repair roads and infrastructure after March storms
State funding will support repairs as the town continues recovering from heavy rain damage
Lorca will soon receive close to €1 million from central government to help repair roads and other municipal infrastructure damaged by the severe storms that hit the area last March. The funding forms part of a wider package for the Region of Murcia and is aimed at addressing the impact of flooding and heavy rainfall across the municipality.The money will be used to repair damage to the local road network and public infrastructure, much of which was affected during the period of intense rain. Emergency repair work is already under way to stabilise damaged roads and improve safety.
The announcement has been welcomed locally, with the funding seen as an important step in supporting longer-term repairs after the initial emergency response. Municipal sources confirmed that the aid is specifically allocated for public infrastructure and road repairs.
Alongside this, the Ayuntamiento has confirmed it has requested a total of three million euros to cover the full extent of the damage caused by the storms. This figure reflects the cost of repairing roads, drainage systems and other municipal facilities affected by the heavy rainfall.
There has also been discussion locally about financial support for residents and businesses affected by the storms. While the newly confirmed funding is directed at public infrastructure, the Ayuntamiento has said it has met all required procedures following the March DANA storm.
In a statement, municipal sources said: “We reiterate, and will do so as many times as necessary: we have not lost any emergency aid following the DANA storm last March. The Ayuntamiento has fulfilled its obligations.” The statement also explained that some aid processes depended on the formal publication of the Council of Ministers’ agreement of April 1, which declared Lorca an area especially affected by an emergency.
For residents, the immediate focus remains on road conditions and ongoing repair work, particularly in areas where flooding and surface damage caused disruption earlier this year. The confirmed funding is expected to support continued improvements, helping restore key routes and public infrastructure across the municipality as recovery efforts move forward.
