June 23 Night of San Juan bonfire party at the beach in Los Alcázares
Music, magic and fire at the Playa del Espejo in Los Alcázares
The night of San Juan, which falls on 23rd June, the evening before the feast day of the Saint, is traditionally celebrated throughout Spain as a kind of midsummer festival, with bonfires being lit and outdoor get-togethers all over the country.
Los Alcázares on the inland shore of the Mar Menor is, predictably enough, no exception, and the Town Hall is organizing what promises to be a night of fire, music and magic at the Playa del Espejo. Also present will be children’s activities as the community comes together for its traditional night of conviviality on the beach.
The day’s events begin at 12.00 with a parade and drumming group filling the streets of the town as they invite residents and visitors to join in the fun, and then the kiddies’ fun begins at 18.00 in the Plaza del Espejo: face-painting is the order of the day, it seems!
The live music starts at 19.30 with a performance by “Rock Experience”, a group from the local music school, and they are followed during the evening by “Filiu y Cía” and a show by DJ “La Hora de la Leyenda loka”, lasting until midnight.
It is at the witching hour that the grand bofire is lit, with more music lasting well into the night from DJs Nev and Rajobos and the “Fusión Perfecta” show.
It goes without saying that everyone is welcome to join the party!!
