San Javier Today is a website set up by Murcia Today specifically for residents of the urbanisation in Southwest Murcia, providing news and information on what’s happening in the local area, which is the largest English-speaking expat area in the Region of Murcia.
When submitting text to be included on San Javier Today, please abide by the following guidelines so we can upload your article as swiftly as possible:
Send an email to editor@spaintodayonline.com or contact@murciatoday.com
Attach the information in a Word Document or Google Doc
Include all relevant points, including:
Who is the organisation running the event?
Where is it happening?
When?
How much does it cost?
Is it necessary to book beforehand, or can people just show up on the day?
…but try not to exceed 300 words
Also attach a photo to illustrate your article, no more than 100kb

June 12 to 14 Cheese Fair in Lorca
A treat for lovers of fermented curd at the IFELOR venue in Lorca
The Palacio de Ferias y Congresos “Alcalde Francisco Jódar Alonso” at the IFELOR complex in Lorca is holding the city’s first ever Cheese Fair affiliated to the European Cheese Route, bringing quest cheesemakers from all over Spain and allowing cheese fans in the Region of Murcia to enjoy a cheese tour of the country!
The municipality of Lorca has recently joined the European Cheese Route, a new initiative which at present features cheeses only in Spain and Portugal, where it is represented by local brands such as Quesos El Roano, La Zarcillera and Alimer, all of which have won prizes in international competitions.
Other locations and types of cheese represented at this event include Idiazabal, Mahón-Menorca, Torta del Casar, Zamorano, Arzúa-Ulloa, San Simón da Costa, Manchego, Castellano, Payoya, Sierra de Málaga, Tentudía, Acehúche, Huesca and Ourense.
The programme for the weekend includes the following:
Friday June 12
18.00: “Queso y salud: Deshaciendo mitos” (Cheese and Health: Deconstructing Myths), a talk with tastings.
19.00: A tasting of goat cheeses produced by the El Señorío de Monesterio cheese makers, accompanied by verdejo wine.
20.00: A tasting of cured cheeses produced by the S’Arangi.
Saturday June 13
12.00: “El arte de comer queso” (The Art of Eating Cheese), a talk with tastings.
13.00: A tasting of cheeses produced by the Campovieja cheese makers in Castilla-La Mancha, accompanied by D.O. Rueda wine.
14.00: A tasting of “pañoleta” cheeses produced by the Los Barrancos cheese makers, accompanied by vermouth.
17.00: A tasting of cheeses produced by the local El Roano cheese makers, accompanied by white wine.
18.00: A tasting of goat cheeses produced by the Gaia Gourmet cheese makers, accompanied by godello Godello wine.
19.00: A tasting of semi-cured goat cheeses produced by the La Covacha cheese makers, accompanied by manzanilla wine from Sanlúcar.
20.00: A tasting of sheep cheeses produced by the El Manojar cheese makers, accompanied by craft beers.
Sunday June 14
12.00: Cheese-tasting workshop.
13.00: A tasting of San Simón da Costa cheeses produced by the Prestes cheese makers, accompanied by Albariño wine.
