When submitting text to be included on San Javier Today, please abide by the following guidelines so we can upload your article as swiftly as possible:

The perfect cure for "melon-choly", with tastings, cooking shows, workshops and live music

 

July 1 to 5 International Melon Week in Torre PachecoFrom July 1 to 5, Torre Pacheco becomes the world epicentre of melons with the 2nd International Melon Week (SIM).

The town hall has unveiled an ambitious program of gastronomy, culture and Murcian flavor for all tastes, all in order to give the region's culinary gem its "honey-due".

This comprises a varied agenda combining cooking shows with prestigious chefs, children's workshops, professional events, a tapas area and musical performances, all with melon as the centerpiece.

The activities are designed to highlight the importance of melon cultivation in the region and the nutritional qualities of this product from business, gastronomic and social perspectives.

These will be focused in four locations in Torre Pacheco: Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Plaza Alcalde Pedro Jiménez, Plaza Vicente Antón and the Centro de Artes Escénicas (CAES).

July 1 to 5 International Melon Week in Torre PachecoAnd every day of the event, from 11.30am to 2pm, a double-decker promotional bus will tour different areas of the Mar Menor and its beaches, handing out fresh melon with music and competitions.

As a new feature, there will be a Gastronomic Fair with a Tapas Zone and DJs playing music, every evening from 8pm to 1am in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

Another new feature will be the Mini Gourmet cooking workshops for children in Plaza Vicente Antón every day at 8pm. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each day will conclude with musical performances and family shows in the Plaza Alcalde Pedro Jiménez.

Tuesday July 1

  • 11.30am: Promotional bus at Los Alcázares Playa del Espejo
  • 8pm: Cooking show in led by chef Marco Antonio Iniesta of restaurant 'Frases' , recently awarded its first Michelin Star
  • 9pm: Opening gala with Spain’s most famous weatherman, Roberto Brasero
  • 10pm: Divas Acoustic Show concert


Wednesday July 2

  • 11.30am: Promotional bus at Lo Pagán Playa Villananitos
  • 8pm: Cooking show with chef Juan Guillamón of the Michelin-starred Murcia restaurant, 'Almo'
  • 9pm: Cooking show with chef David López from restaurant 'Local de ensayo'
  • 10pm: Family show "Belle y Bestia son" (They are Beauty and Beast)


Thursday July 3

  • 11.30am: Promotional bus at Santiago de la Ribera Explanada Barnuevo
  • 8pm: Melon carving workshop led by Antonio Chacón
  • 9pm: Cooking show with Pedro Buitrago of the restaurant ‘Tandemʼ
  • 10pm: 2025 Melon Awards Ceremony, presented by Luis Alcázar and Marienca, and broadcast live on La 7 RM, with performances by the Víctor Campos Ballet, Siempre Disco and Vanessa Soul


Friday July 4

  • 11.30am: Promotional bus at Cabo de Palos Paseo del Puerto
  • 9pm: Cooking show by Miguel Hernández of the restaurant 'Por herencia'
  • 10pm: Performances by local dance groups and choirs


Saturday July 5

  • 11.30am: Promotional bus at Torre Pacheco weekly market
  • 8pm: Melon cocktail workshop with mixology expert and Royal Bliss ambassador Mario Gallart
  • 9pm: Closing Gala with live performance by Argentine musician Coti, winner of two Latin Grammy Awards


Residents and visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the world of melons, discover their many culinary facets, and enjoy the cultural and culinary richness of the Region of Murcia.
