July 4 to August 3 Geology exhibition in Jumilla
The geological artwork of Ángel Francisco Cutillas at the Ethnography and Natural Science Museum of Jumilla
Ángel Francisco Cutillas has been collecting and studying rocks for many years, compiling knowledge about the whole world but especially the area around Jumilla, where the characteristics of the rock are very special due to its location over a layer of former volcanic rock.
In fact, a type of rock found only in this locality has been officially named “jumillite” in honour of the town (for those interested, it is described “as a variety of olivine phonolitic leucitite composed essentially of leucite and diopside, and with subordinate olivine, alkali feldspar and phlogopite. Now regarded as an olivine-diopsiderichterite madupitic lamproite”.
(Thanks to www.mindat.org for the information)
He is also a painter, specializing in both oils and watercolours, and this collection features a selection of his highly detailed and informed work.
The exhibition can be seen at the Jerónimo Molina Ethnography and Natural Science Museum of Jumilla from Friday July 4 until August 3 (opening hours Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00, Sundays and public holidays 11.00 to 14.00).
