The last Saturday night event during the 2025 San Javier International Jazz Festival begins with a show by the prodigious 19-year-old pianist Brandon Goldberg, who has emerged as one of the brightest talents in the new wave of American jazz. Downbeat magazine praises his “deep sense of swing and a clear, idea-filled playing style, executed to near perfection.”
After an instrumental first set with his trio, Brandon introduces his special guest, the brilliant vocalist Shenel Johns, another of the rising stars in U.S. jazz. Since the age of 14, Shenel has worked to develop her unique style, showing the degree to which she is influenced by Sarah Vaughan and Abbey Lincoln.

Following the interval, Donny's Black Shoes present their “Special Soul Project”, led by the young pianist and composer Daniel “Donny” López, who is one of the brightest talents in Spain within the realms of funk and soul. Winner of the Enlace Funk Award for Best New Group in 2021 Daniel has been a standout student of renowned pianists such as Pepe Rivero, Iñaki Salvador, and Mauricio Vallina and has mastered the entire spectrum of black music, from soul, funk, Jazz, R&B and neo-soul to high-quality Latin sounds.
At Jazz San Javier he presents a special project with 8 musicians and 3 singers, lots of groove and arrangements that recall the best years of 70s/80s funk, along with flashes of Neo Soul. The repertoire includes his own compositions and powerful arrangements of classics by Sly & The Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Real Thing, Earth Wind & Fire, and The Isley Brothers, among others.
