Step back in time at Orihuela’s 3-day event featuring more than 300 stalls and live falconry shows
Orihuela is dusting off its medieval robes for the 26th edition of its famous Medieval Market, running from Friday January 30 to Sunday February 1, 2026.
This is one of the largest and oldest events of its kind in Spain, transforming the city's historic centre into a proper medieval spectacle with nearly five kilometres of route and more than 300 stalls to explore.
For three days, the streets of the city will be buzzing with medieval music, crafts, street theatre, workshops and food that'll transport you straight back to the Middle Ages. Visitors from across Alicante and beyond typically flock here to soak up the atmosphere and lose themselves in a bit of living history.
Orihuela's fair tradition stretches back to 1272, when Alfonso X "The Wise" granted the city the privilege of holding an annual fair. Ferdinand IV later moved it to All Saints' Day in 1295, and that commercial and cultural spirit has stuck around ever since.

The event offers a top-tier immersive experience with activities for all ages. Some of the highlights include:
- Live shows: Medieval music, dance, puppets, street theatre and constant entertainment in the streets.
- Workshops on ancient crafts: Blacksmithing, pottery, weaving, ceramics and other live demonstrations of historical techniques.
- More than 300 artisan market stalls: Jewellery, incense, leather, spices, textiles, wooden toys and much more.
- Medieval and local gastronomy: Traditional dishes, typical sweets, grilled meats and local products in taverns and food stalls.
- Falconry displays: Shows with birds of prey that amaze the young and old alike.
- Family activities and children's area: Designed so that the little ones can also enjoy the trip to the past.
Getting to Orihuela
Orihuela is the capital of the Vega Baja del Segura region and home to roughly 77,000 people. The historic centre has been declared a historical-artistic site, which makes sense when you see monuments like the Cathedral of El Salvador, the Episcopal Palace and the medieval walls that still stand today.
The city is easy to reach by road via the A-7 and N-340, and there's also a medium-distance train station with connections to Alicante, Murcia and other nearby towns.
