January 18 Guided hike in the Revolcadores mountains, the highest in Murcia
The hikers of Caravaca organize a trip out in north-western Murcia
The D’Ruta series of hiking expeditions organized by the enthusiasts of Caravaca de la Cruz continues on Sunday 18th January with a 15-km route in the mountains of Revolcadores, including climbs and descents of 750 metres.
The Revolcadores massif lies mostly in the municipality of Moratalla and although the highest point has traditionally been viewed as being the Pico de los Revolcadores at 2,027 metres above sea level this is now in dispute! Recent surveys suggest that this Summit is in fact at 1,999 metres and is surpassed by that of Los Obispos (2,014m), while further to the east is the Pico de Los Odres (1,876m).
Among the wildlife which can be seen here are eagles, the griffon vultures, mountain goats and wild boar, and the accessibility of the higher ground make this a popular (if cold!) destination for hikers.
Those wishing to take part in this hike can register online at sporttia.com/eventos as of Monday 12th January, with the cost amounting to 4 euros for mountaineering federation members and 7 euros for others.
