January 17 Enjoy the traditional chicken and turkey meatballs of Pozo Estrecho
Pozo Estrecho celebrates its fiestas in honour of San Fulgencio by handing out thousands of ‘pelotas galileas’, the typical local delicacy
The town of Pozo Estrecho, between Cartagena and the Mar Menor, is holding its annual patron saint fiestas in honour of San Fulgencio until Saturday January 17, with the last day being reserved for the traditional serving of free (and delicious!) "pelotas gaflileas" in a tasty chicken and turkey broth.
The day also includes a series of workshops for adults, while at the same time the children can learn how to prepare the "pelotas" themselves.
Competitions and official presentations follow before the warming lunch is served at the Huerto de Paco Saura fairground, and the event usually attracts thousands of people - indeed it has been awarded Regional Tourist Interest status as one of the tastiest fiestas in Murcia!
To make life easier for visitors (and to avoid difficulty in parking) a special bus service is being run from Cartagena with 130 places available on coaches leaving from Paseo Alfonso XIII at 10.30 and on the return journey at 16.30. Prior booking for this shuttle service is necessary here and more coaches may be hired if there is sufficient demand.
