Ferry service between Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor
The ferry operates an all year-round service across the Mar Menor
There is a ferry service across the Mar Menor between the jetty at Santiago de la Ribera’s Playa Barnuevo and the Puerto Tomás Maestre, in La Manga del Mar Menor.
The ferries now run daily from Wednesday to Sunday, but does not run on Mondays or Tuesday.
The ferry times are:
- Departing from the jetty in Santiago de la Ribera at 11.30, 13.30 and 17.30
- Departing from Dársena 0, Puerto Tomás Maestre, in La Manga del Mar Menor at 10.15, 12.30 and 16.30
You are recommended to check departure times with the Ferry Mar Menor before travelling as weather conditions can cause alterations (phone number 0034 649 201 610).
Background
The Mar Menor covers a surface area of 170 square kilometres, so although it is possible to drive from the "mainland" section of the San Javier around the outside of the lagoon and up the La Manga strip, those without vehicles, or prefer a more leisurely pace of travel, may prefer to use the ferry service which links these two distinct sections of San Javier on opposite sides of the Mar Menor. (See map of San Javier)
There are regular bus services along the La Manga strip in both directions (see public transport for more information).
The journey takes 40 minutes and tickets can be purchased on board.
During the summer festival season, extra services are often laid on for those attending the San Javier Jazz Festival and the Festival of Theatre and Dance.
