February 23 Traditional folk music and dancing in the Alhama village of El Berro

The 16^th Encuentro de Cuadrillas features music and dancing in Sierra Espuña

The interest and pride in local traditions runs deep in the communities of Sierra Espuña, the main mountain range in the centre of the Region of Murcia, and an example of this is the holding on 23^rd February of the 16^th meeting of “cuadrilla” music and dancing groups in the picturesque village of El Berro, in the municipality of Alhama de Murcia.

The event begins at 10.30 in the morning when the performing groups are welcomed, and this is followed by a musical Mass at the church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores at 12.30. With music accompanying the proceedings, it’s then time for lunch at 14.00 and the afternoon performances begin at 15.30, with arts and crafts stalls set up alongside.

The groups taking part on this occasion are the Cuadrilla de Mula, the Cuadrilla Albatalía-Arboleja, the Animeros de San Blas de Bullas and the Cuadrilla de Ánimas from El Berro.
