February 22 Traditional music and merriment in the Lorca village of Torrealvilla
Cuadrillas and paella in one of the many outlying districts of Lorca
The tiny hamlet of Torrealvilla, which lies just over 10 km north of Lorca on the C-9 road to Zarzadilla de Totana (click for map), is holding its 18th annual festival of traditional “Cuadrillas” music and dance groups on Sunday 22nd February, with the day centring on a community lunch beginning at 14.30 (paella, bread and fruit for all, price just 7 euros).
Prior to that, at 11.00, the “cuadrilla” groups taking part perform in the village, and it is to be h hoped that they drink in moderation during the meal as they are due to provide entertainment again afterwards! The groups taking part are those of “El Niño de Nápoles” and La Hoya as well as the local musicians of La Torrecilla.
A bar/canteen service is open all day and a raffle will be held as the outlying districts strive to maintain their identity and traditions in times of depopulation, and Councillor María de las Huertas García encourages everyone to go along and join in the fun!
